Tata Electric Cars To Be Sold Via EV Only Dealerships

Tata Motors is currently the largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in the country. Considering the increasing demand for EVs, the company is planning to setup a separate sales channel for its EV range that includes Tiago EV, Tigor EV and Nexon EV. Initially, the automaker will establish 10 outlets across 10 major tier-2 cities. This decision has been made with an aim to increase e-PVs sales by two-folds (i.e. from 100,000 to 110,000) in fiscal year 2024.

Tata’s first EV dedicated showroom is expected to open in the NCR region. The company is estimated to invest around Rs 95 lakh – Rs 1 crore per dealership covering an area up to 6,000 – 7,000 square feet. Tata dealers will start billing EVs and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) models to separate companies. While the Tata electric cars will come under TPEM (Tata Passenger Electric Mobility), the petrol and diesel models will be billed to Tata Passenger Vehicles.

The separate EV and ICE billing arrangement will last till the separate sales channels get operational. Tata dealers need to have separate inventory funding for both the businesses. Tata Motors is dominating the electric four-wheeler segment with over 70 per cent market share. In January 2023, the company registered total EV sales of 2,426 units against 2,926 units in the corresponding month last year.
